Here are five 2028 prospects deserving some more looks after four games into their junior seasons:
Cameron Flynn, 2028 – OL – Millard West – 6’5″ 305 lbs – (@Cameron65785)
Millard West’s Cameron Flynn is a junior prospect that checked in high on our board during the preseason and he has continued to show why through four weeks of the season. Cameron is a player who stands out immediately with next-level measurables at 6’5” and 305 pounds, along with “dancing bear” mobility that makes him a well-rounded blocker. As a pass-protector, I was very impressed with how well he can move laterally especially when getting wide to take on edge rushers. Flynn shows great power in his heavy hands that he keeps locked and ready to shoot through a defender’s chest. This powerful punch and his strong leg drive have allowed for him to overwhelm defenders at the point of contact, ending with Flynn upending them for the pancake. Vicious mean streak and great motor. As a run blocker, he is a mauler who can climb up to the second level to seal off LBs and can act like a runaway train when he gets momentum going on pulling blocks. Very good instincts and IQ allow him to identify where the defenders are attacking from and switch off/pick up defenders on the fly. Someone worth monitoring closely!
Jackson Gangwish, 2028 – QB/LB – Grand Island Central Catholic – 6’0″ 200 lbs – (@jacksongangwish)
The GICC Crusaders have been operating like a well-oiled machine through four weeks with a big contributing factor being the stellar play of QB Jackson Gangwish. Jackson made his name known last season with a highly productive sophomore campaign at LB and gave us glimpses of what to expect on offense as QB2. Now, he is in charge and has posted an impressive 71% completion rate, 664 passing yards (0 INTs), 24 carries, 313 rushing yards, seven touchdowns, and a 153.3 QBR. When watching Jackson’s game tapes the first thing that comes to mind is that this guy is calm, cool, and collected at all times. He is very smooth going through his dropback and remains very poised in the pocket as he looks through his reads. Even when Jackson senses pressure, he just finds a way to escape and extend the play on his legs while keeping his eyes downfield looking for a target. Gangwish has a smooth release that can launch it deep down field or a touch pass over defenders in the middle of the field. Very accurate passer who makes great decisions with the ball and keeping it out of harm’s way. Watch out when he tucks the ball and runs it himself, because he has the ability to run past you or drop the shoulder to run through you. Gangwish has also registered 16 tackles, four TFLs, and a sack at linebacker where he continues that toughness and mean streak with some mean licks at the point of attack. His high IQ helps guide him to the ball, making him effective at filling gaps and in coverage. Great QB who is only getting better week after week!
Chase Gable, 2028 – DB – Papillion-La Vista South – 6’3″ 185 lbs – (@chase_gable13)
Papio South’s Chase Gable is another prospect I’ve kept a close eye on for a few seasons now and has proven production. Chase has tallied 20 tackles, three TFLs, a sack, and an interception. I was watching Chase’s recent game tape where I feel like he had did a great job displaying his full range on the football field. Chase is a versatile defender who has the athleticism and instincts to be a ball-hawk in coverage, while also being able to use his 6’3″, 185-pound frame to be an effective run defender. Playing nickel, Chase showed no issues having to take on shiftier slot receivers or bigger TEs in coverage. His lengthy reach and ball skills allow him to get his hands up to defend passes in the air or to play through the receiver’s hands to break it up. Gable is very rangy from his position with a sharp break on the ball and closing speed, making him someone who can come from anywhere on the field to make a stop. He can also sniff out outside runs or screens very well and can get to the ball to make a splash play in the backfield. Great motor from snap to whistle keeps him in non stop pursuit of the ball with great tackling technique when he arrives there. FBS and FCS schools have already begun to take notice so it shouldn’t be long before some offers arrive to the table!
Christian Fitzgerald, 2028 – WR/LB – Lincoln Southwest – 6’4″ 185 lbs – (@ChristanFitz11)
Lincoln Southwest’s Christian Fitzgerald really caught my attention during a 7v7 tournament this past summer where he flashed the tools to be a next-level prospect and has continued to do that so far. In four games, Christian has recorded eight receptions, 162 receiving yards (team leader), seven tackles, and three TFLs. Fitzgerald is an explosive athlete with excellent measurables coming in at 6’4″, 205 pounds and a reported 6’8″ high jump and a 22’7″ long jump. He projects well as either a receiver or defensive back at the next level. On offense, what really sticks out to me is Christian’s 20+ average yards per reception, aligning him with some of the top deep threats in the state. You can really see it on tape as he has a long stride that helps him chew away at a DB’s cushion and get downfield in a flash. His track background shines with his ability to elevate over opponents to high point the ball and win those 50/50 balls— helps also having a huge catch radius. Great ball tracking downfield. Defensively, Fitzgerald gives you a versatile athlete who can fit almost anywhere across the formation. He is great at getting downhill to defend the run, you can rush him off the edge, and he has the athleticism to drop back into coverage. Christian’s physicality was also impressive to see as he is very violent at the point of attack while still doing a good job of securing the tackle. Fitzgerald’s track accomplishments have also garnered him recruiting attention on that front as well. Get after him!
Kaleb Fenner, 2028 – RB – Yutan – 5’9″ 175 lbs – (@kaleb_fenner23)
Yutan’s Kaleb Fenner seems to be getting settled in, in recent weeks and that is a scary thought for the rest of C2. In four games, Kaleb has recorded 57 carries for 636 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, with three consecutive games of at least 150 yards and 3 touchdowns. When you watch Kaleb’s tape, you see a RB who has no quit in him no matter how many defenders he’s stacked against or however many tackles he has to slip past, his motor is constantly running. Fenner possesses excellent contact balance when fighting through tackles attempts and keeps his legs constantly pumping through contact. He’s very agile with the ability to hit quick cuts, spins, jukes, etc in tight quarters while keeping his eyes up scanning for opening creases. Kaleb has underrated speed that really shows when he’s hit his gap and accelerates past the defense for the home run ball. His tough, physical running style really wears on a defense down the stretch, but he’s proven to be able to handle the load of a workhorse back with a strong frame that holds up well. Fenner and this Yutan squad should not be slept on!
