Film Room Sessions: 2027s Showing Out At Midseason Pt 1

The 2027 class still has plenty of available prospects who should continue to draw attention as they close out their senior campaigns. To bring more exposure to these players, I am diving into the film room to check out some senior prospects who have put out great tape halfway through the season.

Here are six senior prospects who have stood out so far:

Rylin Viergutz, 2027 – QB – Columbus Lakeview – 5’10” 170 lbs – (@RylinViergutz)

Columbus Lakeview’s Rylin Viergutz has ridden the momentum of a solid junior campaign into a true breakout year now in his senior season. Through five games, Rylin has nearly matched his totals from last season, throwing for 1,213 yards, 15 touchdowns, and a 115.1 QBR on a 59% completion rate. Rylin is a smooth passer with underrated power and velocity on his throws. He has been money on deep passes, showing great accuracy and timing, with incredible throws scattered throughout his tape. His range can hit all levels of the field with ease. Rylin’s mobility was another interesting aspect of his game, as he could easily roll out of the pocket to extend plays and evade pressure. He has the arm talent to make tough throws on the move and place them well. Viergutz’s mobility isn’t just for extending the pocket; he also added 184 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, making defenses account for him as a runner, too.

Liam Houston, 2027 – OL/DL – Elkhorn – 6’3″ 290 lbs – (@LiamHouston27)

Elkhorn lineman Liam Houston’s season has unfortunately been cut short by injury, but that doesn’t erase the massive contributions he brought to the field. Liam was a starter on the offensive and defensive line with true mauler potential on either side at the collegiate level. I had the opportunity to watch Liam a few weeks back, and he really caught my eye when he hopped over the offensive line on a field goal attempt and got the block to keep it 0-0. This play shows the high level of effort Liam brings on every down. Offensively, he is a powerful mover with a strong base who can drive defenders off their spots and has heavy hands that can overwhelm opponents with his initial punch. Houston also shows some “dancing bear” traits, proving nimble on his feet with great lateral quickness that makes him an effective puller and good footwork when dropping into pass protection. Good leverage and pad level at the point of contact. Liam’s a great finisher who is always looking to end blocks with his opponent in the dirt. Houston is very smart with his hands, keeping them tight and loaded before firing them and landing with great placement. On defense, I can see him being an interior defensive lineman whose size at 6’3″ and 290 pounds and powerful anchor make him a terror to try and move off his spot, while also having the violent hands to rip and disengage. Houston holds a number of offers ranging from D2 and NAIA, including Chadron State, Concordia-St. Paul, Doane, Midland, and several others. I am confident Liam will bounce right back and be ready to make a difference at the next level.

Kadin Logan, 2027 – RB – Lincoln Southeast – 5’8″ 170 lbs – (@jkt_logan)

Southeast’s Kadin Logan is a perfect example of bouncing back from adversity after suffering back-to-back season-ending injuries in his sophomore and junior year. Now a senior, Kadin has been on fire with 48 carries for 385 yards and four touchdowns through four games. It’s nice to see that, despite the injuries, Kadin hasn’t lost his biggest asset: his game-breaking speed. Logan is always a threat to break away for the home-run ball if you let him get to the edge. He sees the field very well and displays great patience as his blocks develop in front of him. He’s also twitchy in close quarters, with top-tier agility that helps him maneuver through defenders. Kadin isn’t all flash, though, as he is also very strong and can fight through tackle attempts or bulldoze a defender when he decides to go through them. He can also be an effective receiver out of the backfield with great run-after-catch ability that can do a lot of damage if you give him open field. Hidden gem prospect with a massive ceiling!

Zane Harb, 2027 – LB/RB – Grand Island Northwest – 6’2″ 190 lbs – (@HarbZane)

It’s not surprising to see GI Northwest’s Zane Harb at the top of the team’s tackle chart, but it is a nice surprise that he’s also the leading rusher on offense, which shows his versatile athleticism. Harb has recorded 64 tackles, two TFLs, 269 rushing yards, and five rushing touchdowns while playing linebacker and running back for the Vikings. He projects best as a linebacker, where he really stood out with the rangy play that makes him a threat in all facets. Harb has a quick trigger and a fast first step that let him go flying downhill when he reads the run or times his blitzes. He shoots his gaps well, with the power to take on blockers and bring down ball carriers in the hole. Zane has impressive lateral quickness that lets him flow sideline to sideline and get solid depth in his coverage assignments. Harb has a solid frame at 6’2″ and 190 pounds with room to continue maxing out his frame. This run below shows his toughness as a runner, fighting off a couple of tacklers before flipping the field, finding the corner, and darting past everyone to the end zone. Sleeper prospect in this 2027 class!

Kordai Richard, 207 – DB – Omaha Westside – 5’10” 170 lbs – (@KordaiRichard1_)

Senior DB Kordai Richard started the season with a bang, including a pick-six on his first play in new threads, and has continued to be an excellent fit in the Warriors’ defense. Through five games, Kordai has tallied 17 tackles and two interceptions (one pick-six) while providing great coverage at CB. Kordai stands out as a fundamentally sound cornerback who displays a polished skill set and a high IQ. He moves very well through his backpedal, displaying clean footwork, and has the hips to quickly flip and change direction. Richard had great reps in man coverage, flashing the speed and agility to stick with his intended receiver through routes while also having the instincts to turn his head to locate and track the ball. Even when he gives his receivers cushion, QBs risk him reading it and using his quick closing speed to snag it or break it up at the catch point. Another thing that really stood out was Kordai’s motor, which has driven him to make some touchdown-saving tackles 20, 30, 40 yards downfield coming from the opposite side of the field. That also speaks to his underrated speed, which I don’t have an official 40-yard time on, but his game speed translates well. Great tackler at the CB position who can bring down ball carriers in the open field.

Kamden Korth, 2027 – K – Gretna East – 6’4″ 190 lbs – (@KamKorth1)

We gotta shout out the always-important special teams players, especially guys like Kamden Korth, one of the top uncommitted specialists in the state. Kamden has been on a heater this season, having knocked in 15 of 15 PAT attempts, 3 of 4 field goal attempts with a long of 50, and touchbacks on 17 of 27 kickoffs. Korth has also been key at flipping the field as a punter, with four punts landing inside the 20. At 6’4″ and 190 pounds, Kamden has a big leg with huge range, and it shows in the power he’s able to put into his kicks; even his miss of 55 yards had the distance. He is dead accurate on his punt placement and even got a successful onside kick that he executed perfectly.
