Catching up on some game reports, I’m going back to the Week 1 matchup between the Gretna East Griffins and host Norris Titans. In a game that went back and forth, ultimately coming down to the final plays, the Griffins were able to hold on for the 27-20 win over the Titans.
Despite the loss, there were still several bright spots from a Norris team looking to make a run in Class B. Here are my Titan standouts:
Evan Greenfield, 2027 – QB/K – 6’2″ 185 lbs – (@Evgreenfield22)
Senior Evan Greenfield continues to show why he’s one of the top overall athletes in his class, with not just a dual-threat performance, but also making some big kicks on special teams. Evan completed 16/24 passes (67%) for 228 passing yards and rushed for 65 yards, while also drilling both of his field goal attempts, including an impressive 49-yarder. Offensively, Evan is a smart QB who does a great job analyzing and diagnosing the defense, while also showing he can move through his progressions effectively even under duress. Evan is accurate at all levels of the field, showing he can deliver a very catchable ball with great accuracy and timing. He has the zip to fit the ball into a tight window over the middle of the field and shows nice touch by layering the ball over defenders. Greenfield’s legs are also a problem, as he has proven incredibly elusive, whether he’s evading pressure, extending plays outside the pocket, or running downfield— very slippery. Speaking of Evan’s legs, he has consistently been one of the top specialists in the state since his freshman year and now looks even sharper with some extra power behind his boot. A somewhat under-the-radar prospect who should be receiving more looks!
Jacob Kranau, 2028 – RB – 5’10” 190 lbs – (@JacobKranau)
Junior Jacob Kranau had a strong showing in his first varsity start at RB for the Titans. Kranau led all rushers on the field, ending with 29 carries for 87 yards and two rushing touchdowns while also adding three receptions for 38 yards through the air. The biggest aspect of Kranau’s game that stood out is that he is a tough player who does a great job absorbing contact and didn’t hesitate to attack a tough Griffin defense. Jacob’s 5’10”, 190-pound frame is sturdy and holds up well when running between the tackles while also flashing a consistently low center of gravity and balanced base to keep him powering through tackle attempts. He sees the field well, with great vision, along with the agility and lateral quickness to make sharp cuts and hit opening lanes. Good receiver out of the backfield, but has also shown that he can slip into the slot. Stock riser in the 2028 class!
Rylan Schoenbeck, 2027 – LB – 6’2″ 220 lbs – (@rylanschoenbeck)
Norris LB Rylan Schoenbeck led the team in tackles last season and looks like he’s well on his way to doing it again after a productive opening performance. Rylan finished the game with 12 tackles, a TFL, and a forced fumble. Rylan stands out immediately at the linebacker position with next-level size at 6’2″ and 220 pounds, with the physicality to match. He plays with a quick trigger that lets him fire downhill as soon as he reads his keys, making him very effective at filling his gaps. Schoenbeck is not the person you want to see 1v1 in the hole, as he has the power and strength to blow you up and drive you back before making much of a gain. Even when he doesn’t get a free rush at the ball, Schoenbeck has shown that he can play violently with his hands to disengage from blockers and continue his pursuit. On top of being a solid run defender, Rylans displayed the ability to flip his hips and quickly drop back into his coverage assignment. Solid field general ‘backer who can quickly come in and be the leader at the center of your defense!
Jalen Koehn, 2028 – OL – 6’4″ 265 lbs – (@jmkoehn34)
Offensive lineman Jalen Koehn was a name I had circled going into the game as a junior prospect with high upside, and he did not disappoint. Jalen got the start at right tackle but also had some reps at left guard, showing off a bit of his versatility in the trenches. In the run game, I was impressed with his physicality, showing he can not only move defenders off their spot but out of the play entirely with effective leverage at the point of attack and a mean streak when finishing the block. Jalen does a great job with his hand placement and knows how to work them inside to gain additional leverage over his opponent. He is nimble on his feet with good footwork and lateral quickness to climb up to the second level and be an effective puller in the run game, or adjust on the fly when picking up on blitzes/stunts in pass protection. Strong, physical player with next-level measurables at 6’4″, 265 pounds, with room to continue filling out his frame. Solid defensive player as well, who can fill gaps against the run and apply pressure on QBs. Someone to start monitoring for your 2028 boards
Colby Pomajzl, 2027 – LB – 5’10” 185 lbs – (@colbyp9000)
Senior Colby Pomajzl was another defender who stood out in my first real look at him in pads after watching him during 7v7. Pomajzl tallied eight tackles from the linebacker position but flashed as someone who can be a versatile defender at the next level. Colby is a quick, agile linebacker who plays with great range and closes on the ball well. He is effective at reading his keys, with a quick trigger when he reads the run and fluid hips to drop back into coverage. I can see him moving into a safety/nickel role, where he can be used as an extra body in the box, a DB in coverage, near the LOS, and in several other versatile ways. He uses good form when he gets to the ball carrier and can secure tackles in the open field. Looking forward to seeing more from Colby as he continues his senior season!
